Privacy & data

How Lifing looks after your information

Lifing is built to feel gentle, reflective and human – and that includes how we treat your data. This page explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

This privacy notice applies to your use of the Lifing website and any related services we provide.

In simple terms: we only collect what we need to run Lifing, keep your account safe, improve the service and, occasionally, let you know about important updates. We do not sell your data to third parties.

1. Who controls your data?

Your personal data on Lifing is controlled by the operator of the platform (“we”, “us” or “our”). Contact details are provided on the site’s contact or help page. For data protection purposes, we act as the data controller for information you provide to Lifing.

2. What information we collect

We collect and process different types of information:

2.1 Information you provide directly

  • Account details – such as username, email address, password (stored securely), and any optional profile information you choose to add (for example, name, avatar, short bio).
  • Content – your daily stories, captions, comments, images, videos and other material you upload or write on Lifing.
  • Preferences – such as notification settings or other choices you make in your account.
  • Support messages – anything you send us when you contact support or give feedback.

2.2 Information we collect automatically

  • Log data – including IP address, browser type, device information, pages viewed, date/time of access and how you interact with the site.
  • Usage information – such as how often you log in, which features you use, and basic analytics that help us understand what is working well.
  • Cookies and similar technologies – small text files stored on your device to remember your session, settings and help us keep your account secure.

2.3 Optional payment or credit information

If Lifing offers paid features or in-app credits, payment processing may be handled by a trusted third-party provider. In that case, we do not store your full card details. We may receive limited information such as:

  • A transaction reference or ID.
  • Payment status (for example, successful or failed).
  • Approximate amount, currency and time of purchase.

3. Why we use your data (and legal bases)

Under UK and EU data protection law (UK GDPR / GDPR), we must have a legal basis for processing your data. On Lifing, we typically rely on:

  • Contract – to create and manage your account, deliver the service, and allow you to post stories, comments and media.
  • Legitimate interests – to run and improve Lifing, keep it safe, defend against misuse and understand how people use the site.
  • Consent – for certain optional features, such as specific types of cookies, email updates you opt into, or other things where you clearly agree.
  • Legal obligation – where we are required to keep certain records or share limited information with authorities, for example in serious misuse or safety cases.

4. How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • Create and maintain your Lifing account and profile.
  • Allow you to post daily guided stories, upload images and videos, and interact with others.
  • Show your content in relevant places (for example, your profile, other users’ feeds, search, notifications).
  • Keep your account secure, including detecting suspicious logins or abuse.
  • Operate credits or optional paid features, if you choose to use them.
  • Understand how Lifing is used so we can make it smoother, faster and more enjoyable.
  • Respond to support requests and messages you send to us.
  • Send important account or safety notices (for example, password resets, major changes to the service or policies).

5. Cookies and similar technologies

Lifing uses cookies and similar technologies to remember who you are, keep you signed in and improve the experience. These may include:

  • Essential cookies – required to log in, keep sessions active and keep the site secure.
  • Preference cookies – to remember settings like language or display options.
  • Analytics cookies – to help us understand how the site is used in a general, aggregated way.

Where analytics or tracking cookies are non-essential, we will only use them where permitted by law, which may include asking for your consent or allowing you to opt out in your browser settings.

6. Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal data. We may share limited information with:

  • Service providers – trusted companies that help us host the site, send essential emails, provide analytics or process payments. They are only allowed to use your data as needed to provide their service to us.
  • Legal or safety reasons – for example, with law enforcement or other bodies where we are required to do so by law or where we believe someone may be at serious risk of harm.
  • Business changes – if Lifing is restructured, merged or transferred, your data may move to a new operator, but your privacy rights will continue.

7. International transfers

Some of our service providers may be located outside the UK or European Economic Area. Where this happens, we take steps to ensure your data remains protected, for example by using:

  • Standard contractual clauses or similar legal safeguards.
  • Providers in countries recognised as having adequate data protection standards.

8. How long we keep your data

We keep your personal data for as long as it is reasonably needed for the purposes described in this notice, including meeting any legal, accounting or reporting requirements. For example:

  • Your account information is kept while your account is active.
  • Content (such as stories and comments) is kept while it remains on Lifing or until you delete it.
  • Basic logs may be kept for a limited period to help with security, troubleshooting and abuse prevention.
  • Payment or transaction records may be kept for longer where required by tax or financial rules.

When data is no longer needed, we aim to delete it or anonymise it so that you cannot be identified from it.

9. Your rights over your data

Depending on where you live and applicable law, you may have some or all of the following rights:

  • Access – to ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction – to ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Deletion – to ask us to delete your data in certain circumstances (for example, if it is no longer needed).
  • Restriction – to ask us to limit how we use your data in certain cases.
  • Objection – to object to certain types of processing, such as direct marketing or processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Portability – to request your data in a structured, commonly used format, where the law applies.
  • Withdraw consent – where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time (this will not affect past processing).

To exercise these rights, please contact us using the details on the site’s contact or help page. We may need to verify your identity before responding to your request.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. In the UK, this is the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

10. Children and young people

Lifing is intended for users who are old enough to use online services under the laws of their country (typically 13+ in the UK). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below that age.

If you believe a child has created an account without appropriate permission, please contact us so we can review and take appropriate action.

11. Keeping your account secure

We use a range of technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including:

  • Encrypted connections (HTTPS) between your device and our servers.
  • Secure password storage using industry-standard hashing.
  • Access controls so only authorised people or systems can access necessary data.
  • Regular updates and monitoring to reduce security risks.

No system is entirely risk-free, but we work to keep security up to date and respond to issues quickly. You can help by:

  • Using a strong, unique password for Lifing.
  • Not sharing your login details with other people.
  • Letting us know promptly if you suspect unauthorised access.

12. Links to other websites

Lifing may contain links to other websites or services. Those sites have their own privacy notices and we are not responsible for how they handle your data. You should read their privacy information before using them.

13. Changes to this privacy notice

We may update this privacy notice from time to time, for example if we add new features or if the law changes. When we do, we will update the date below and, where appropriate, highlight the changes in the app or on the site.

If you continue using Lifing after changes take effect, we will treat this as acceptance of the updated notice.

14. How to contact us

If you have any questions about this privacy notice, your data, or how Lifing works, please contact us using the details on the site’s contact or help page and mention that your question relates to privacy or data protection.
